Rydal WI meets every 2nd Tuesday in the month at 7.30pm at:-

Most months we hold a meeting at the Kelsick Centre.

January and August we organise trips to the theatre
June we hold a Games Night at Ambleside Cricket Club (On Rydal Road between Rydal and Ambleside)
November is the AGM and Rummikub
December is our Christmas party





  • The Quiz at the Sun Inn

    Two teams competed in the Federation Quiz at the Sun Inn at Troutbeck.
    Good fun trying to remember vital facts and dates!!!


  • Our Community Police Officer

    Laura Jackson came to talk to us about her work and our safety in the home,


  • Dry Rot

    Members pose by statue of the lovely Judy Dench before we watch "Dry Rot" at the Keswick Theatre. It was brilliantly acted and very, very funny.


  • The Group Meeting

    Olive Clarke our guest Speaker cuts our Diamond Jubilee cake with Susan our president. The beautiful cake, made by talented member Rosalind Faulkner had the WI badges from the last 60 years fixed on the corners.


  • The Taming of the Shrew

    Six of our members travelled by coach to Newcastle to watch The RSC production of "The Taming of the Shrew" A very bawdy afternoon with lots of fun and excellent acting.


  • Cinderella

    On Wednesday January 25th 7pm 19 of the members  attended the Pantomime CInderella at the Lakes School Troutbeck Bridge. This was a very entertaining evening with all the usual audience participation, fantastic costumes and props, little girls dancing and singing.


  • Book Launch

    At the Book launch Susan is standing with Fiona, Christine and Margaret in the library, prouding showing their Book. Crocodiles, Cakes and the Queen's Petticoats.


  • The Memoir Book is Published

    Just before Christmas Margaret,  Fiona, Christine from Rydal WI and Margaret from Ambleside received the Memoir Book. The Book Launch was at Ambleside Library..Everyone had a chance to talk to those involved and buy the book.


  • Christmas Party

    A very enjoyable evening, food, a Christmas Quiz and our favourite game, Military Whist


  • Our Theatre Trip

    Our afternoon of fun began with fish and chips at the Kingfisher cafe. The show was amazing with special effects and  music.The star of the show was a large, talking, white elephant named Hamlet.


  • Ambleside Christmas Lights

    While we ran our busy WI stall in the Market Place Santa was spotted arriving at Bowness.
    A fantastic Community Day with everyone enjoying the fun.


  • Christmas Carols

    On Friday 2nd December , Julie drove Pat and Myra to the W I Carol Service in Kendal Parish Church. They loved the readings and carols including a very unusual arrangement of 'Away in the Manger' .


  • The Brownies Work Begins

    The ladies are busy covering more boxes with the huge pile of finished boxes from everyone in the corner, All around the room tables of items have been sorted ready for the Brownies to fill at their meeting.


  • The Knitting for Hawkshead Brownies

    Lots and lots of super hats, gloves and  puppets have been made for the Hawkshead Brownies. The Brownies are filling Shoeboes for the Christmas Child Appeal in November.


  • Covering Boxes

    We make a start. Sylvia and Pat cut the paper and Kath and Jill covered the boxes for the Hawkshead Brownies. It worked well. We did 12 in a morning session. Only 38 to go!!! 


  • Piel Island

    Susan and Jill had a super day on the WI trip to Piel Island, After an interesting visit to the Docklands Museum we went in small boats to Piel Island. After hurricane winds days before the sky was blue and the sea calm. We finished the day with a vast spread of food provided by Rampside WI, they were perfect hostesses.


  • The WI Quiz

    At the joint Ambleside, Brathay and Rydal Quiz in Aid of the First Responders we had a very enjoyable time and raised £428 for the  local cause.


  • Singalong

    Julie, Pat L. Pat W.Susan and Jill had an enjoyable evening at Kendal Town hall singing Rogers and Hammerstein Songs with Paul Gregson on the Keyboard.


  • Our New Member

    February 2010 Our newest member Julie with our President Susan, Pam who has been a member for 50 years and Margaret a Founder Member.


  • More New Members

    Three more members joined in 2011, Pat L. Margaret W. and Pat W. pose with Susan (Pres) and Pam and Margaret F. in our meeting room in the Kelsick Centre.


  • August 2011 Car Boot Sale

    Our stall is laden with goodies and interesting items. We took it in turns to take a break as members arrived to help. Luckily the weather was dry and we made nearly £200.


  • Croquet

    During the summer, we play croquet on a Monday afternoon at the Ambleside Cricket Club
    (weather permitting )


  • Visit to the Keswick Theatre

    Christine, Sylvia, Jill, Marylou and Myra enjoy a stroll around the Theatre at Keswick. The water's edge at Keswick is a beautiful setting for the theatre.


  • Susan and Pam

    Pam has been an active member for over 50 years here she recieves her Certificate for Long Time Membership


  • Wartime Weddings

    At our March Meeting Lucy took us back to the Second World War by dressing in the outfits a young bride would have. She dressed in the underwear, dresses and going away outfits.


  • Lucy's Display

    Lucy brought along a large collection of authentic items, there were gloves, hats, handbags and items with the Utility Mark. Members brought along photos and items from their own family treasures including a "going away " outfit.


  • Rummikub

    Margaret and Marylou enjoying  a tense game of Rummikub at the Rugby Club.


  • The Westmorland County Show

    The beautiful crowns made for the Jubilee Flower Show were on display in the fantastic WI Tent.
